IN OUR PARISH
FRANKLIN TO CLOSE:
St Mary's Franklin will close Sunday the 10th February in a Mass commencing at 9.30am and lead by His Grace, Archbishop Adrian Doyle. Fr Graeme Howard has accepted an invitation to be present and to concelebrate the Mass. Please let family and friends know that they are welcome to attend this historic, sad and exciting moment in the life of our Parish. Following the Mass there will be an opportunity for a BBQ or picnic lunch (BYO) at the Huon Rowing Club, on the water front in Franklin.
Masses will commence the first Sunday of Lent (17th February) at 9.30am in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Ranelagh. Franklin Rosters will apply.
NEW PRINCIPAL AT SACRED HEART CATHOLIC SCHOOL GEEVESTON
My name is Luch Brighella and I have recently been appointed as Principal at Sacred Heart Catholic School in Geeveston. I have been teaching and in leadership at Catholic School in Hobart for the past 30 years. These schools have included Sacred Heart College New Town, Corpus Christi Catholic School in Bellerive, Holy Rosary Catholic School Claremont and St Virgil's College in Hobart.
I am married to Jenny and we have 4 children; Michaela, Jordan, Ethan and Isabelle. We live on a small acreage in Mt Rumney on the sunny Eastern Shore of Hobart.
I have a long connection with the Josephite Sisters having attended Sacred Heart College in New Town as a young boy and then spending my first 8 years of teaching there. My children have all attended MacKillop College and my wife currently works there, thus continuing my connection with the Josephite charism and in particular, St Mary MacKillop.
I am very much looking forward to working at Sacred Heart and becoming a part of the school and local community in the beautiful Huon Valley! I look forward to meeting you as opportunities arise.
ENROLMENT OPPORTUNITIES AT SACRED HEART CATHOLIC SCHOOL GEEVESTON
If you are interested in your child receiving a Catholic education (or have a friend, neighbour or relative that may be interested), we currently have some positions available from Prep - Grade 6. We have a wonderful school community at Sacred Heart with great staff, students, parents and a very supportive Parish Priest in Fr Greg. We have a great learning environment set upon 10 acres at Geeveston. In addition to the normal range of learning areas we also have specialist teachers taking PE, Music, Library and Spanish. Our teaching and learning program is well supported with good technology that includes student laptops and iPads. We also have a number of bus services covering a wide area, offering free transport for our students to/from school.
If you are interested in a tour of our school or a prospectus package and application form, please contact our friendly office staff on 6297 1313 and they will be happy to assist you.
If I can assist you personally in any way, please do not hesitate in contacting me.
With my very best wishes,
Luch Brighella, Principal, Sacred Heart Catholic School, Geeveston
The parish is now at the point of organising those members of our community who are volunteers and who need police checks to have the paper work completed. Who needs one? Any extraordinary minister of communion taking communion to the sick in the home or in any of the various aged care facilities, those who are catechists in our sacrament program, or work on children's liturgy. Sadly, even if you already have a Police Check through another organisation or indeed the Catholic Education Office you still require a Check through the Archdiocese of Hobart. I apologise for the doubling up but it is the way it has to be!
EXPOSITION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT:
Sunday afternoon in St Mary's Franklin at 4.00pm and Friday evenings at 7.00pm in St James Cygnet the Blessed Sacrament will be exposed for prayer, silent meditation and reflection.
Rite of Election:
You are warmly invited to attend the Rite of Election to be held in St Mary's Cathedral Sunday 17th February at 2.00pm to support those to be enrolled in the book of the elect by Archbishop Adrian Doyle. In our Parish we will welcome both Deborah Coad and Amy Watkins full Communion with the Catholic Church this Easter and during the Rite of Election they will be introduced and acknowledged by the Archbishop on this important step in their faith life.
The Archbishop will be in the Parish the 1st and 2nd of June 2013 to celebrate the sacraments of Confirmation and 1st Eucharist.
Reconciliation: 22 March
Confirmation: 11 April
Eucharist: 24 May
Ash Wednesday 13 February 2013 Mass times:
Programs are available at the back of the Church. For those wishing to join a group see either Mrs. Louise Burdick in Franklin or Sr Joan Cowmeadow in Cygnet after Mass for the program types available. Louise is still working on some ideas and I have chosen 'We Wish To See Jesus' from the Archdiocese of Brisbane a series of Lenten reflections for the Year of Grace as one of the options and 'Believe: Lenten Program 2013' from the Diocese of Wollongong. By unpacking the Sunday Scriptures (both Old and New Testament), Fr Graham Schmitzer (Parish Priest, St Columbkille's Parish, Corrimal) addresses the much asked question of our time, "Why should I believe in God?". There are others if these don't suit.
